Dexys Midnight Runners
Formed in Birmingham in 1978 by Kevin Rowland, Dexys Midnight Runners built a soul-influenced sound around brass, fierce work ethic and constantly reinvented image — from donkey jackets to dungarees. Their 1982 single “Come On Eileen” became one of the biggest-selling singles in UK chart history, but the band's restless, uncompromising streak made them one of Birmingham's most singular pop exports.
