Duran Duran
Formed in Birmingham in 1978 and named after a character from the film “Barbarella,” Duran Duran fused new wave guitars with dance-floor grooves and a sharp visual sense honed at the city's Rum Runner club. Their glossy, MTV-ready image and sound made them one of the defining pop acts of the early 1980s and figureheads of the New Romantic movement.
