Steel Pulse
Formed in 1975 in Handsworth, Birmingham, Steel Pulse emerged from the same Afro-Caribbean community that shaped the city's reggae and punk crossover scenes. Their sharp, socially conscious lyrics addressing racism and inequality made them pioneers of British roots reggae, and in 1986 they became the first British reggae act to win a Grammy Award.
